Self Defense in Centerville, OH
To most people, the words “self defence” conjure up a wide array of violent mental images. People think of boxing matches, karate films and no-holds-barred street fights. In actuality these images completely misrepresent the essence of what self defence really means. To defend oneself does not necessitate an act of violence.
Self defence is a broad category that encompasses a variety of methods and approaches to dealing with an attack. At Brown Institute, we embrace all the meanings of the words “self defence” and our teachings reflect this broader approach.
Brown Institute does not advocate violence. While in some attack scenarios violence is necessary, Brown Institute promotes defence methods that emphasize keeping you safe, which often means deescalating a dangerous situation before an attack can occur.
At Brown Institute, we’ll teach you all the methods, explore various scenarios and the right way to defend yourself in almost any situation. Our model is to always shy from an altercation but also be prepared for one.

Amazing people and the instructors are really knowledgeable. I would recommend it to anyone!
Fantastic instructor, facility, and staff.
A great school! Master Brown is one of the most knowledgeable and passionate instructors in the area. If you're a beginner or looking for a fresh outlook on martial arts, this is the place to go!
Awesome place for people of all ages. I tried the Jiu Jitsu class recently and its a great workout and pratical form of self defense. It enables a smaller person to defend against a much larger person. Jeff Brown is a hands on instructor with a great facility.
Master Brown is friendly, professional, and kind. His Muay Thai class kicked the crap out of me, but that's because I'm out of shape. He is willing to take time to provide hands-on training and gives each student the attention they require to maximize their potential. No to mention he's had Jeet Kune Do Master Dan Inonsanto at his school a few times, to say the least. Also, it's the only place that teaches Pencak Silat Mande Muda.
A great place for the whole family. I started with Muay Thai six years ago, it's a great workout, and if your interested in competition you can find the right people to help work with you. I've really enjoyed the Friday Night Fight Club. When my girls were old enough, they expressed interest in the kids classes and really enjoyed the challenge and discipline Guru Brown provide. It's a great place to challenge yourself, learn about competitive martial arts in a family friendly environment.
Master Brown is outstanding with kids. The martial arts taught here are both traditional and functional (muay thai and brazillian jiut jitsu). He will let you take a class or two for free before paying to see how you like it. The belts come with education; not a certain number of classes, which I appreciate. The adult programs are very welcoming, a great workout, and educational. Overall, it's a very comfortable and safe environment for all ages to train and learn martial arts.
I've been going to Brown Institute for almost 3 year because they've always made me feel welcomed and taught me Marital Art's at the highest level! Highly Recommend!
Great place to learn martial arts, I took classes here when I was a little kid, about 8 years ago, and I recently went back to take classes again. they have great classes for both youth and adults. They have a great facility, very spacious, instructors are highly qualified. Muay Thai is my personal favorite but all classes are great. Classes are spread out well to fit various schedules. I give it a 10 out of 10
A little expensive in comparison to other clubs but in my openion worth every penny, Friendly enviroment, many classes to choose from. not intimidating. I have done Muay Thai & BJJ and its been great. BJJ is not as big as Muay Thai at the school but still is very enjoyable and great place to start fighting. The classes are set up to motivate you into coming in everyday.
Great for all ages
I trained with Mr. Brown when he was a brown belt and it was an awesome experience. Its an excellent workout and practical self defense. I recently joined again and it's nice to see how Mr. Brown has added to his skills. He's constantly improving as a martial artist and works directly with his students. He's good with kids and teaching older adults as well. Jim D.
I've been in the martial arts for twenty-five years and Master Brown never fails to impress me. He cares about your mental, spiritual and physical health. He is able to apply his life experiences to the techniques and demonstrate multiple variations. Seldom are practitioners of multiple arts so knowledgeable and proficient. Browns Martials Arts Institute will supplement every martial artist's skill.
I've been a student of Master Brown for almost 2 years and I love it! Master Brown's enthusiasm, professionalism and patience are the reasons I keep coming back. If you want a awesome workout or to learn the newest martial arts technique's, then Brown's Institute of Martial Arts is for you.
